Rabbit Level | Field Notes from Bataquitos Lagoon

I was on the trail at Bataquitos and the birds kept landing low and disappearing into the brush. Over and over. I kept watching them and before I knew it I was looking at everything from about rabbit level.

That is when I saw this. The sage and scrub up close, all that pink and gold tangled together, and that heavy purple sky behind it going on forever.

Nobody looks at a trail from down here. But the birds know something.

I took a photo and painted it later because I was not ready to let that angle go.

The painting is part of my Altoids Tin Series. Original oil on wood panel, about 2.5 x 3.5 inches, mounted inside an Altoids tin. Available now at dianalisa.com
