Before the Rain | Field Notes from Bataquitos Lagoon

I wanted to get out before the rain came in. Bundled up, beanie on, fingerless gloves, and a little pad to sit on so the cold wouldn't come up through the slats in the bench.

The lagoon was doing that thing it does in autumn when the light goes flat and silver and everything gets quiet. The hills came in heavy from the left, dark and solid. The water below them was pale and still. Just a thin line of yellow on the horizon holding on before the grey took over completely.

I painted it right there. The rain held off long enough.

The painting is part of my Altoids Tin Series. Original oil on wood panel, about 2.5 x 3.5 inches, mounted inside an Altoids tin. Available now at dianalisa.com
